Montezuma’s Revenge voted
“the world’s Worst Race”. Watch as several adventurous
compulsive risk takers push the limits in this years 18th annual
Mountain bike Odyssey. 12 different loops take you on an epic
journey through the high country of summit county Colorado. Montezumas
Revenge was the first ever 24 hour Mountain bike race established
in 1986. Since it’s inception hundreds of nocturnal superfreaks
have attempted to tackle the autonomous forces and grueling terrain
under a full moon high in the hills of Montezuma Colorado.
In an era of of “extreme
this” and “ultra that” Montezuma’s Revenge
is a unique way to punish the human body and spirit. The world’s
toughest 24 hour solo Mountain Bike Race. Over 200 miles, 10 +
times over the continental divide, over 35,000 feet of ascending,
with the lowest elevation at 9,000 feet the highest at 14,270
feet above sea level. No one has ever completed the course! The
object is to ride as much of the course as you can in 24 hours.
This year’s course took riders over two 14,000 foot peaks.
This years men’s winner Josh Tostada pounded out a record
140 miles and climbed a vicious 30,895 feet in those 24 hours.
Woman’s champ Jari Kirkland managed an incredible 122 miles
and ascended an unimaginable 25,926 feet before the stroke of
4:00 p.m. 24 hours into the event.
Ultra endurance guru John Stamstad
describes this insane event as “ the most difficult single
day event” he has ever participated in. The famed Rishi
Grewal stated that “it became my favorite race in my 20
year racing career” after having won the event for his first
time in 2000.
